I built an open-source Kotlin + Compose app that runs ADB from your phone to debloat Android TVs (no PC, no root)
I got tired of the ads and preinstalled junk on my projector, and every fix needed a laptop and adb commands. So I built Tellyscope: a phone app that talks to Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV over Wi-Fi debugging and does it in a few taps.
What it does: turns off bloat from tested per-TV lists (300+ devices), sideloads APKs and split bundles, sends files, shows who else has ADB access, and works as a remote all in under 3MB of size.
How it's built:
- 100% Kotlin + Jetpack Compose, Material 3 Expressive
- The ADB side is a plain Kotlin/JVM module (no Android deps) on top of kadb, with coroutines throughout, so it's unit-tested without an emulator
- Android 11+ wireless debugging with pairing codes, plus classic port 5555
- For key presses, typing and screen off, a tiny helper runs on the TV via app_process and is deleted when you close the remote. No root.
- Screenshot tests with Roborazzi + Robolectric
- No Play Services, no Firebase, no analytics. GPL-3.0.
I'm not getting anything out of this except bug reports, and that's what I need. Code review, "this is the wrong way to do X", or "it broke on my TV" are all welcome.
